Game-A-Week Episode 13: VRChat
[1:08 AM]
The year is 20XX
[1:08 AM]
The world's machines are joined in a worldwide network
[1:09 AM]
But there is a dark side to this convenience as well:
[1:09 AM]
Computer viruses, and an increase in NetCrime
[1:09 AM]
The virus lab at SciLab.....
[1:10 AM]
Conducts research into ways of dealing with these viruses.
[1:10 AM]
One day....
[1:10 AM]
The students of ACDC school in ACDC Town in DenCity,
[1:11 AM]
took a field trip to the SciLab's Virus Lab
[1:13 AM]
I think that's as far as we can take that joke.
[1:13 AM]
Unfortunately, in the year 2020, we don't have the amazing world of NetNavis as portrayed in the MegaMan Battle Network games.
[1:14 AM]
Instead, we have.... VRChat.... Whiiich, actually came out in.... I want to say 2017?
[1:14 AM]
Maaaaybe 2016?
[1:15 AM]
Anyway, its the virtual world you can walk around in and, like the name suggests, chat with your fellow net denizens.
[1:15 AM]
It its depressingly, the closest thing we have to NetNavigation right now.....
[1:17 AM]
I downloaded this back when it was trending at its height in popularity. When I was making the Game-A-Week list, I said "Yeah sure, why not" and threw it on there since I still had it on my computer, after all.
[1:17 AM]
Since this isn't really a "game", this is going to be a very short Game-A-Week
[1:20 AM]
In fact, I've already summed up the game. That's pretty much the bulk of what you do. There's a huge level of freedom, you can pretty much equip any 3D model as your avatar and anyone can make any area in the game they want. Complete with minigames like go-karting if they want to go that extra mile.
[1:21 AM]
There's some pretty spicy memes to be had but most people just go with an anime girl. In fact, there's an area in the game called the E-Girl Emporium where you can find a lot of NSFW avatars to pick from.
[1:22 AM]
For myself, I cycle between four different avatars. My personal favorite: Super Saiyan Unity-Chan, then we've got the lesser three: a waifu in a trenchcoat, dark magician girl and a 30 foot tall fire emblem waifu in a bikini.
[1:23 AM]
I tried to find my old favorites from back in the day like Mecha Godzilla, Doki Doki and Jonathan Joestar but those areas were long gone.
[1:24 AM]
In fact, every area I used to frequent back in its hayday is all but abandoned. Its actually kind of sad.
[1:25 AM]
It was like returning to Runescape after the massive overhaul. Everything was different, what I loved about the game wasn't there anymore.
[1:26 AM]
Anyway, on my fist day back, I walked into a populated room and immediately someone came up to me and said "So theoretically, if you were the world trade center and I was an airplane, would you let me smash?"
[1:26 AM]
Oh yeah, I knew I was in for an.... interesting time.
[1:27 AM]
The next day, suddenly, the game crashes.
[1:28 AM]
When I boot it back up, I was greeted with a maniacal laugh track and shows a black screen with "Fucked by inu" in red text accompanied by several images of hentai, memes and self harm. It then crashes.
[1:28 AM]
That repeated every time I booted up the game.
[1:29 AM]
As it turns out, someone I had encountered hacked the game to force everyone in the room into changing to this as their avatar. These are called crasher avatars and they're designed for this malicious purpose to crash people's games.
[1:30 AM]
There was an easy fix. Spamming CTRL \ over and over, resets your avatar to the default.
[1:30 AM]
Had I not known that, I would have been permanently screwed. Or rather, fucked by inu.
[1:31 AM]
And I'd bet there are some people out there who never returned to VRChat because they couldn't figure this out. Permanently locking them out.
[1:31 AM]
The fact that this is something that's even possible definitely impacts my opinion on VRChat very negatively.
[1:33 AM]
Anyway, I found an area that's literally a giant anime girl lying down. You can jump on her tits like a trampoline but if you get too close to her mouth, she'll eat you. It was... an interesting experience.
[1:33 AM]
Anyway, that's pretty much everything I have to say about this. I'd love to run around in this game with you guys someday. I think that'd be a fun goofy adventure for us to go on.
[1:37 AM]
I give VRChat a ???/10. I don't think its fair to give it a score since its not really a game. I had a good time with it despite muting my mic and never uttering a single word. I think it would be a lot of fun to do this with friends and I'd very much like to do that someday. Buuut, since my friends are trash, that'll probably never happen. Just know, if there's a people watching super saiyan anime girl staring at you, silent, just watching you.... Listening in on your conversation.... That's probably me.
